Solange - Because sometimes people look up to you, and you might help them find the courage to be themselves.
Andrea - When I was a closeted queer teen growing up in North Carolina, I listened to Ani Difranco almost every day. My world was so isolated and I didn’t have a single queer friend. But listening to Ani’s songs about being queer sent a lifeline to me when I needed it most. She helped me to feel and understand that there wasn’t something wrong with me for being queer - there was something wrong with a world that didn’t celebrate queer lives.
What does LGBTQIA+ visibility mean to you?
Andrea - It means being in the world exactly as you are without feeling the need to censor yourself to make yourself more digestible or more understandable to others.
Why is LGBTQIA+ safety and support in the music industry important in 2024?
Solange - It can be hard to see outside of our own experiences. It’s important because we all have to work together to try and make the world a safer place for everyone.
Tell us about what brings you to Treefort? Have you been to Idaho before?
Solange & Andrea - We’re here for Treefort Music Festival! This will be our first time performing in Idaho and we are so excited.
