.gay Music Monday Feature: A Night to Remember with Mister Co.
Hi, .gay!
In this edition of our #DotGayMusicMonday blog series, we are bringing you an interview with Connor and Oscar — husbands, songwriters, producers, and music duo, better known as Mister Co.
Their first single, 'Tonight,' released on December 1st, explores the foundation of their relationship and life together. This single is their love letter to the world.
How would you describe the music that you typically create?
An exploration of our influences and the life we have created together. As we both come from very different musical backgrounds, Connor came from a rock influence playing across Melbourne in his younger years in bands and groups, whilst Oscar came from a big band and musical theatre background, crooning and belting those old-time classics. So for Mister Co., we meet somewhere in the middle, still trying to draw from our individual influences, sounds, and skills.
Why do you think it’s important to be out and proud in the music industry?
We found that sharing your true identity through your music is a strong way to deliver your true self and purpose. Being proudly out helps build a sense of community with all people LGBTQ+ and being a husband duo is something we are so proud of, and helps make us that little bit more unique. We chose to release “Tonight” as our debut single as it gives our fans and listeners an intimate look into our life and relationship as partners.
As an LGBTQ+ artist, what do you want to convey with your music?
We want to convey a sense of belonging and community, and honestly, we want to bring people joy. Whether that’s by someone connecting with one of our songs or by entertaining a crowd while we are on stage performing.
