Welcome Daniel Quasar’s Progress Pride Flag to the .gay Community with Progress.gay
Daniel Quasar is a freelance designer, artist, and musician based in Portland, OR. In June 2018 they created the Progress Pride Flag. This widely-adopted and lauded update of the LGBTQ Pride Flag incorporates the colors of the trans* Pride flag as well as black and brown stripes representing marginalized BIPOC (Black, Indigenous, People of Color) LGBTQ communities.
“The trans* flag stripes and marginalized community stripes were shifted to the hoist of the flag and given a new chevron shape,” Daniel says. “The arrow points to the right to show forward movement, while the placement along the left edge shows that progress still needs to be made.”
The success of the Progress Pride Flag spawned the Progress Initiative as a means for Daniel to give back to LGBTQ communities. Every time a Progress item is sold on Daniel’s site, a portion of the proceeds is donated to LGBTQ organizations. (Similarly, .gay donates 20% of every new .gay domain registration to GLAAD and CenterLink.)
.gay thanks Daniel for their powerful contribution supporting inclusion and visibility for marginalized LGBTQ communities. We’re big fans of the Progress Pride Flag here at .gay — our web series The Library, produced in collaboration with Two Penguins, also features Daniel’s design in each episode.
