Today's .gay Music Monday Feature is with Snugsworth, a musician who is as fluid as his music.

He spoke to us about how music is part of his self-expression and how he tries to find inspiration in everything around him.

Read our interview with him below.

What inspired you to start playing and making music?

My mom is my biggest influence. Growing up she would always be singing in the kitchen and along with her favorite songs. She put me in the church choir very early in my childhood so I’ve always kinda been a songbird!

What do you like most about playing music?

Really it’s the expression for me. I love to speak my mind and often-times it feels like the only time I’m really heard is when I’m playing music. It’s like okay now you have to shut up and hear me.

How would you describe the music that you typically create?

I would say it’s an amalgamation of everything I love. I like to draw from all kinds of music and take all my favorite artists or genres and see what new stuff I can create from that inspiration. I am inspired by almost everything so I like to find ways to tell my story by blending together what stands out most to me in music.

Why do you think it’s important to be out and proud in the music industry?

Self-esteem! It’s so hard for us to feel good about ourselves when we’re told there’s something wrong with us. I am proud to be queer and my whole life I was taught that was a bad thing. I’ve always known I was pansexual but I never had any representation growing up and when you did see people who were maybe even bisexual, it seemed the world would try to pigeon-hole them into being either gay and in the closet or straight and not actually queer. These are only a few reasons though and I could expand on this all day!

As an LGBTQ+ artist, what do you want to convey with your music?

I really want to convey that you can’t put me in a box. My music is just as fluid as my sexuality and gender expression and I view this as a divine thing I have within myself and am very grateful. I hope that my music can inspire people like me to be who they are. If you feel like you are infinite and boundless like I do, maybe my music is for you!
